The Toon On The Rock Sports Pub opened its doors June 2002, just before the start of the World Cup finals. The Pub has a special significance to Newcastle United fans in Gibraltar and nearby Spain.

The premises were inaugurated by Newcastle United's President, Sir John Hall. Sir John, who also holds a 49% share in Newcastle United PLC with offices at Europort, is a regular visitor to the rock.
The Pub is situated at 4 Cornwall's Parade, the premises previously occupied by Winston's Restaurant. The sports bar is equipped with four TV screens plus a hi-tech 50 inch plasma screen with digital stereo sound.

This is the latest technology in sound and picture sharpness.
Sir John commented to Insight, "Back in the United Kingdom we are a big provincial club, but in order to compete with other major clubs like Barcelona you have to have an international outlook. In these times of globalisation we must be able to compete against all the major world teams. Despite this however, we still consider ourselves a family orientated club - the fans are our family. The Geordies are a family too in this big wide world, just like the Gibraltarians with whom we can identify ourselves."

Newcastle United supporters club on the Rock, who shall be using the Toon as there gathering place (and watering hole no doubt!), number around two hundred. Newcastle United PLC are also supporting a junior team on the Rock, and their scouts will undoubtedly be keeping a keen eye on these young hopefuls to make it in the "big" team.
The Pub proved to be a very popular venue for sports fans during the World Cup and is now gearing up for the Premiership season. The pub is open seven days a week with bar snacks available. The pub which is decorated with all sorts of Newcastle United memorabilia, including shirts autographed by star players, will be featuring any sporting events being televised.
